Quantitative Comparison
Two quantities (A and B) are presented and you determine which is greater, whether they are equal, or whether the relationship cannot be determined. These questions test your ability to reason about mathematical relationships without always calculating exact values.
Tips
- ✓Try plugging in simple numbers (0, 1, −1, fractions) to test the relationship
- ✓If the relationship changes depending on the value, the answer is "cannot be determined"
- ✓Look for algebraic manipulations that make the comparison obvious without calculating
- ✓Geometric figures may not be drawn to scale — rely on the given information only
Problem Solving (Multiple Choice)
Standard multiple-choice questions covering arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. You select exactly one correct answer from five choices.
Tips
- ✓Backsolve when the answer choices are numbers — plug them into the problem
- ✓Estimate when the answer choices are far apart to eliminate obvious wrong answers
- ✓Draw diagrams for geometry problems even when none is provided
- ✓Check your units — a common source of errors on word problems
Multiple Select
Similar to problem solving but you select all correct answers from a list. There may be one, some, or all correct answers — partial credit is not given.
Tips
- ✓Evaluate each answer choice independently — do not assume exactly one is correct
- ✓Work systematically through each choice rather than guessing which ones apply
- ✓These often involve inequalities or ranges — test boundary values
- ✓You must select all correct choices and only correct choices to get credit
Numeric Entry
You type in the exact numerical answer — no answer choices are provided. Answers may be integers, decimals, or fractions entered in a split box.
Tips
- ✓Read the question carefully for units and whether a fraction or decimal is expected
- ✓Double-check your arithmetic — there are no choices to catch obvious errors
- ✓For fractions, enter the numerator and denominator separately
- ✓These questions often test whether you can set up and solve a problem from scratch
